Stacking
the Odds
Jack
Davidson and Alan Fergusson are two men with a strong message. They
believe that exercise, a positive attitude, and a supplement called
Immuno-Care are three critical components for a healthy immune system.
Many years
ago, Alan was providing support to a man with prostate cancer.
He always said that he wished that he had explored alternatives
to the traditional medical treatments. These words came back with
a vengeance when several years later Alan found himself facing
a similar problem, and consequently Alan was strongly motivated
to explore alternative ways of dealing with the situation.
Alan and Jack
decided to focus on the Immune System, and after considerable
research discovered that plant sterols inhibit the growth of breast,
colon and prostate cancer cells. In fact, sterols had been used
in Germany for over 20 years. Even more astounding was that beta-sitosterol
(the active sterol in the phytosterol mixture) not only inhibited
the growth of cancer cells, it also increased the rate at which
cancer cells died. However, sterols are not readily absorbed by
the body, so it became it important to ensure that the sterols
were absorbed, and retained, by the body.
Researching
the sterols was the first step. The second step was to identify
a broad spectrum antioxidant that would reduce the risk for the
development of further cancer. Then they had to ensure that the
components worked together synergistically and were also bio-available
to the body. Their efforts paid off. No other product had this
synergistic combination. Now, several years later, Alan’s
PSA has dropped substantially.
Originally
developed for Alan, these natural ingredient capsules have been
shown to have a remarkable capacity to alleviate many of the symptoms
related to immune system disorders, such as fibromyalgia, psoriasis,
asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis, as
well as many allergies and common colds and flu’. With ever
increasing viruses such as the West Nile and SARS it is becoming
increasingly important to maintain a strong immune system. It
is a supplement that both men and their families take on a daily
basis to maintain their body’s ability to fight disease
in general, and in particular to reduce the risk of breast, colon
and prostate cancer.
Jack jokes
that “ there is a dark side to every discovery.” Now
that he is no longer bothered by summer allergies, he unfortunately
has to mow the lawn and do other garden chores. “ I wouldn’t
change it for the world though. For years, I was unable to enjoy
the outdoors to the extent that I do now. Life is so much more
enjoyable.
Rather than
keep this information for themselves, Jack and Alan decided to
share their research and results with everyone, as they feel it
can make a major difference to the quality of life of the many
people who experience immune related disorders.
What is unique
about this story is that Jack and Alan also discovered that people
with multiple personalities show symptoms that occur and disappear
with changes in their personality. This led Jack and Alan to believe
that there is also a very important psychological/spiritual component
to healing that leads to peace of mind, which is just as important
as diet, exercise and supplements. Unfortunately it is very often
ignored, perhaps because it involves what is often a very difficult
internal journey.
“ Healing
is not just a matter of taking two pills a day,” says Alan.
“ It is an internal journey that involves changes of both
attitude and perception, which is why it is so very difficult.
The approach that I developed for myself to explore this very
important area is attached. This is an approach that helped me,
but someone else would have to adapt this approach to meet their
own specific situation. However, it is at least a starting point.”
Although Immuno-Care
was originally developed to help to battle cancer, Jack and Alan
emphasize that Immuno-Care is not a cure for cancer. It is however,
something that can help you “ Stack the Odds”. Their
philosophy is that dealing with cancer, or any other serious condition,
is a matter of trying to change the odds in your favor, using
all the resources available, traditional and alternative, physical
and spiritual. It starts with you taking control.
The road of
alternative treatments is a road much less traveled, but more
and more people are finding it worth exploring. It is amazing
how many people facing serious illnesses show signs of improvement
once they start to become pro-active and take control of their
own health.
Here are some
of the practices that Alan incorporated into his life, you will
have to adapt them to meet your own needs. May you find joy and
peace on your healing journey.
• Live
one day ( and sometimes one minute) at a time. Try to enjoy each
day. Leave yesterdays mistakes where they belong, in yesterday.
They are yesterday’s rain showers.
• Exercise
regularly, Alan chose running. He ran an 8K in Victoria and now
runs or swims most days to keep fit.
• Give
positive messages to yourself, and particularly to your body.
It is probably your best friend, don’t be afraid to give
it a hug and say thanks. Think more about sunsets, music, love
and laughter.
• Remember
why you are here, where you came from, and where you are going.
Remember life is only an interlude.
• Remember
that you are “ Perfectly Imperfect”, you came designed
that way!. So don’t be surprised when you screw up, its
an opportunity for learning and for growth, for both yourself
and any other party involved.
• Assign
time for prayer/meditation – spend more time listening than
asking.
• Identify
your needs, touch more people and reach out for help. Remember
it generally takes more grace to receive than it does to give.
• Practice
visualizing/imaging on a regular basis.
• Join
a therapy/support group, but make sure it provides positive support.
You maybe surprised to find that you are not the only one who
sometimes feels that you are in a psychological tumbler dryer,
and that it is OK to feel that way.
• Banish
the word “Should” and replace it with “ Could”.
Never again let anyone should on you. You steer your own ship.
Anyone
wishing to explore this road further is strongly advised to read
“ Peace, Love, and Healing” by Bernie Siegel, MD. It
is available through most bookstores for approx $20 for the soft
cover addition, and is probably one of the best investments anybody
facing a serious illness can make.
